PYPM is excited to invite you to celebrate with us in honoring the BNV Championship, our 5-year anniversary and looking towards the future for our plans to further raise the creative youth voices in Philadelphia.

Founded in 2006, at a time when there were no performance spaces dedicated to youth poets, PYPM has grown into the prevalent organization in Pennsylvania using poetry to promote self-expression, literacy and civic engagement among teens. Over the last two years, we have experienced tremendous growth: averaging over 35 teens at our free Saturday poetry workshop, over 150 attending our monthly Youth Poetry Night, launching Youth Slam League where Philadelphia-area high school compete, and launching the annual Dream Big Literary Arts Festival. PYPM has also performed at City Hall, the Kimmel Center, State of Young Philly, and countless schools, universities and community spaces.

PYPM not only focuses on building better poets, but better people. We are proud to say that in 2011, 100% of our seniors graduated and are currently attending four-year colleges, such as Columbia University, Temple University, and Morehouse College. We also understand that many of our youth consider PYPM a "family" environment, providing mentorship and peer support far beyond writing.

MISSION: The Philly Youth Poetry Movement is committed to creating a safe space for teens to discover the power of their voices through spoken word and literary expression.
